Remembering Rancher and ALB Supporter John Peavey

The American Lamb Board remembers John Peavey, an Idaho sheep rancher and founder of the iconic “Trailing of the Sheep Festival,” who passed away on June 16, 2024.

John and his wife, Diane, a former ALB Board member, have long supported the American Lamb Board and the sheep industry. They shared a deep love for sheep, ranching and educating others about animals and the land.

A third-generation Idaho rancher, John ran sheep on the Flat Top Ranch in the foothills of the Pioneer Mountains. John was featured in ALB's American Lamb Story video, where he talks about five generations of his family raising sheep. As a spokesperson for the industry, John was passionate about the sheep industry's rich heritage and its commitment to caring for the land.

John's passing leaves a void across the entire sheep industry. We extend our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to his family and friends during this difficult time.
